Friday Funnies

Laughter is good medicine and I sure got several doses today.

In fact, I'm still smiling from the chuckles I've had. Of course, being a Friday makes it good from the start.  Due to the long hours I work, most Fridays are free for me.  And a "free day off" is always sweet.

This morning, Tim and I lingered at the table going through the mail.  Exciting life we live, I know.  Most envelopes were never even opened but when coming across a small bubble wrapped package, I paused.

"Surely not," I chuckled.

A couple weeks ago I ordered two portable stools, different styles.  For whatever reason, one shipped to the store and one was being mailed.  I figured it would come UPS.  And I'm not sure why I thought a 6x8 envelope would contain my long-awaited chair but I knew it was the only shipment we were expecting.

As I pulled out the bag, laughter ensued.  Mine in disbelief, Tim's was rolling in the floor at his poor wife's expense.

This was folded in a bag smaller than most tiny umbrellas.  In ordering it, I searched for "heavy duty, portable, stool".  Obviously, I did not pay close attention to the specs on height but it stated that it was "heavy duty" and could hold 225 lbs!

I'm not sure if this is a 225-pound brick.  Or if the person is supposed to stand on one foot?  But I seriously don't understand how they expect a normal behind to fit in/on this thing.  Tim attempted it and, between our snorts and giggles, I wondered how I'd explain to 911 when a tiny stool crashed and entered his rear.  Thankfully, he survived.

But I won't live this down for some time...

Then it was off to my Aunt's to spend time with her, as she turns the big 6-0 tomorrow.  We had plans to see a movie (I Can Only Imagine) but when I arrived she had a little-unexpected guest.  My nephew just turned three and though he loves anything on the TV we opted for a more animated show to hold his attention.

The movie was cute but what I enjoyed most were his expressions in the experience.  And my aunt's in watching him.  This was his first movie theatre excursion and he was full of questions and curiosity, as any toddler is at this age.

"Where is the big TV?!" he squeaks, looking out both windows as we near the entrance.

"Popcorn! ...Hey, that's mine."

"There's crumbs on the floor," swooping to retrieve.

"That's not very nice," when a gnome knocked another in the head.

But the cutest moment was during the previews.  As he'd never been to a theatre before -and being a toddler, he didn't quite understand the concept of whispering.  After a trailer for the new Grinch movie, he turned to my aunt and stated, "That looks like YOU!"

We snickered on both sides of the cutie, trying to muffle our humor.  We're still unsure if he thinks she is grumpy, green or because she has spiky hair.  I'm sure it was just what she wanted for her birthday!

My Big, Little Guy

Today I'm thankful beyond words for the towering boy that is my baby. Noah came into our lives at God's perfect timing and changed us forever. He fills my days with laughter and love.
I'm blessed for every single moment with him!

I'm thankful not only today but every day for the JOY that Noah brings into my life.  There isn't a day that he doesn't make me laugh, usually full body, big belly chuckles from something he's said or done.  Quick-witted and a comedian at heart, he always has snappy comments or reactions to our daily life.  Taking after his momma, he's theatric and dramatic, making the every day occurrence a full event.  Intelligent, athletic, helpful and a sensitive soul, just a few of the individual qualities I love and admire in him.

Truly God's gift to us, I realize how precious his timing was in giving us Noah.  Though we tried for three years, Noah came when we needed him most - and after we'd quit trying.  Tim and I were going through the roughest patch our marriage had ever seen and Noah's arrival was the needed boost to hold us together.  With his pregnancy, we fell deeper in love and became stronger as a family.  He is a visible reminder of how far we've come, and now more than ever, the glue that continues to hold us.

Noah has been my sole motivation some days, especially the first few weeks and months after losing Austin.  Knowing he needed me is what pulled me out of bed, forced me to put one foot in front of the other, and move forward.  But it was more than just that knowledge, it was his sweet spirit, his joyfulness, and his love that helped and continues to heal Tim and me.  I'm so grateful to have him in my life and thank God for every second spent with him!

Prior to starting this blog, I was writing on one dedicated to Noah.  There aren't a lot of posts but Noah Bear Notes is filled with funny stories, mostly direct from his mouth.  Here are just a few of my favorite "one liners" from my silly guy!

Noah: "Hey Mom, Look...I can get up from the floor with handcuffs on."

Me: "Hey Noah, that's a skill I hope you NEVER need."

Lady: "What grade are you in?"
Noah: "4th"
Me (later): "Why didn't you say 5th?"
Noah: "Until my feet are in the 5th grade room, I'm still a 4th grader!"

Noah (walking in with disposable camera): so how do I see these pictures now?
Me: we have to get them developed
Noah: ...(insert silence and crickets)
Me: (sigh) I feel so old!

Noah: "So how do you get your breath fresh?"
Me (chuckling): "Why, got somebody you want to kiss?"
Noah (ignoring): "What does mouthwash do, what's it all about?"
...and after a long discussion on dental hygiene...
Me: "Do you have a girlfriend or something you want to tell me about?"
Noah: "Nope, but I figure it's about time to go out and get one." :)

Convo with Noah ..."did you call 911?" me, "no, I called dad". Noah, "duh dad IS 911!"

Noah just asked me to look up a cheat code for the Wii Fit...I think that kinda misses the point...lol

Me: so is this a great valentines present? (eating at Patty's)
Noah: less talking, more eating!!
.....guess that answered my question

Out of the mouths of babes

There's not much cuter than some of the things kids say.  Sometimes I wish I had a notebook strapped to my wrist to capture all the funny comments that come out of Noah's mouth.  When it happens, I'll think - "Oh, I've got to remember that!" yet when it comes time to retell it, I forget.

The other night we were singing Christmas songs and Noah belted out, "deck the halls with all that's jolly!" but on the "fa la la" part he quickly faded as he realized it was a different version than I was singing.  He said, "Oh, I've always thought it was 'all that's jolly'!"

There's a couple words he commonly gets confused on and I sometimes don't correct him because they're so sweet.  For instance, he'll use the word pacific instead of specific.  And, for as long as I can remember, he's called tootsie rolls, twitsie rolls.

I know there are so many more stories but for the life of me I can't remember any others right now.  Another post, another day I guess.  He did tell me a funny story yesterday though that I just have to share.  In planning for their school Christmas party, the teacher had made a list of needed items.  The choices each kid could bring were "salty snacks, 2 liters, veggies, chips, sweets, etc"  Noah said, "I picked 2 liters because I knew you had some under the cabinet and I thought it would be easy for you."  (awww)  Then he said, "But do you know some kids raised their hands and said, 'I'll bring ETC'?!"  I started laughing but then I paused and said, "Wait, you do know what that means, right?"  And he did.  He gave me a good definition and example and then we shared the laugh together.

Those little moments of joy are so quick and can often be overlooked in the hustle and bustle of every day, but really, I think those simple times of laughter at what your child has said are sometimes the best.  Each innocent phrase is a peek into a child's mind and a joyful glimpse of God's most precious gift to us parents.  I'm truly thankful for each and every one...even if I forget them minutes later!
